I took Anurag to RGV: Manoj Bajpayee

One of the favourites of offbeat filmmakers, Manoj Bajpayee will be next seen in Anurag Kashyap's gangster flick 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. Bajpayee is playing a gangster in the film. His last film 'Lanka' also had featured him in a negative role. IBNLive asked Manoj whether he has any special inclination towards negative roles.
"Whenever people ask me this question I ask them just one question in return. Have they forgotten 'Shool', 'Zubaida', 'Pinjar', '1971' or 'Swami'? It's just that I found some roles interesting and they happened to be negative or grey", said Manoj.
Gangs of Wasseypur has the mafia war as its subject. Manoj throws some light on it, "I can only tell you that the film is set in 80s when a great mafia war had happened to get hold of the coal mines of Dhanbad. The story is inspired from those incidents."

How was the experience of working with Anurag Kashyap after a long time?Together they have worked in Ram Gopal Varma's SatyaShool and Kaun. Manoj says, "I have worked in some of the films written by Anurag in the past but this is the first film where he is my director. I feel very fortunate and take pride in saying that I had taken him to Ram Gopal Varma. I met him when he was young and buzzing. He was angry and so was I, so we could relate to each other."
He further speaks, "We have done fabulous work together and now when we are working as an actor and the director, the film should go a long way."
Is the film based on 'The Godfather'?
"No, I am not playing Don Corleone in the film. I am playing a character that doesn’t have a thought process and is very unpredictable. He does what he feels like without thinking much about the reasons behind it."
Is the role similar to Bhiku Mhatre?
"Bhiku Mhatre was a very intelligent person and this guy is not intelligent at all but he loves being in the front."
Sachin Ladia, the writer of the film, also explains the subject of 'Gangs of Wasseypur', "The story begins when Jharkhand was a part of Bengal. It's about a small community. Actually modernisation has made Wasseypur the part of the extended city."
The film will be made in two parts. Sachin says, "Earlier the movie was expected to be wrapped in just one part but we came up with a big research and then the director decided to make it in two parts."
The first part is scheduled to be released in May while the second part is expected to hit the screens towards the end of the year. It seems Manoj Bajpayee is all set to mesmerise the audiences again.
