Dear Poonam Pandey, stripping won't get you roles

 If it is a film role she is vying for – it is not working. No product endorsements seem to be coming her way either. If one checks the comments on the pictures she tweets – the fans seem to want one simple thing. Sleaze. The potential directors who might be remotely impressed by the skin show is Ram Gopal Varma and the Bhatts.
Poonam Pandey’s tweets fill the feed on the microblogging site every other day. Starting from the promise to bare all if Team India won the World Cup to simply putting up her latest bikini pictures – the self proclaimed model has tried everything to grab attention.
It’s been a whole year and neither RGV nor anyone from the Bhatt camp has offered Poonam Pandey a role, not even a ‘blink-and-miss’ one. Thus it is time someone kept the clothes on and took some well-meaning acting classes and hired a better publicist.

So is Miss Pandey trying to encash a fame ticket that does not work in India? Apparently. India is still a country of the morally uptight (also the morally upright) – thus bikini pictures/topless pictures/bathing videos essentially cannot work for the audience that in its own way – dictates the choice of stars for the directors.
Something must be going very wrong here – for despite enough pictures posted by Poonam Pandey on Twitter for her fans – she is still methodically choosing to wear lesser and lesser clothes.
Alternately – she may declare herself – the most downloaded model on Google – aren’t we missing the obvious? The ones downloading the pictures, liking her posts on Twitter – asking her to reveal more – are there just for the ‘adult content’ and knowing the trend – they would go anywhere else to acquire the same thrills. It isn’t Poonam Pandey they want specifically – they just want someone to strip. Pretty much anyone would do.
Then again, to call ourselves morally upright and uptight is not a bad thing is it? We are just asking someone to stop unnecessary skin show for it is simply not pleasing to the eye and India is not a market it could work in. Been a year stripping hasn’t it?
India can handle a Sunny Leone – but a Sunny Leone who had to maintain a tepid image of a good Indian girl who went in to jitters when another contestant on the reality show kissed her hand. The Bhatts want that Sunny Leone. Ram Gopal Varma wants that Sunny Leone. Poonam Pandey sadly seems to have no takers. In a country that accused the channel in question of promoting porn by having Leone on the show – Poonam Pandey is in the wrong universe.
If film offers or modeling contracts are going to come then they will for things that Poonam Pandey has not tweeted about, not posted and not made a video out of. And if that is exactly what Poonam Pandey wants to deliver – then she is clearly doing it on the wrong social networking site.
Due respect to the Poonam Pandey fans – but what is on display is not guts or erotica – but something which has a dire need of refinement. So, stop cluttering the Twitter feed – and keep the clothes on. It just might work this time.
