Karisma Kapoor stayed away from films after marriage and children because she wanted to focus on her family. But she says she continued doing ads and TV as it was way easier than doing movies.
Karishma got married to businessman Sanjay Kapur in 2003 and they have two children - daughter Samaira and son Kiaan Raj Kapoor.
"I think I had great association with many brands for quite a few years. It's always nice then to do films. My daughter was growing so spending time on films was way too consuming, so I thought why not commercials. I wanted to give most of my time to family so I chose to do TV over movies," the 37-year-old told IANS.

For family, I chose to do TV over movies: Karisma

After endorsing brands like Kellogg's Chocos, Utsav Jewellery and Khaitan Electricals, Karisma has got another endorsement deal - she has been announced as the brand ambassador of real estate giant Avalon Groups.
She will promote their new project Avalon Rangoli at Dharuhera in Haryana.
"They approached me to endorse the brand so I thought why not and today (Sunday) we have launched a new place. There are many factors which I check before associating with any brand. Firstly, I should believe in them and secondly, the brand needs to be credible so I find both of them in Avalon Groups," Karishma told IANS.
After eight years, she is making a come back with 'Dangerous Ishq', being directed by Vikram Bhatt.

Back in Chennai, STR is shooting for Vettai mannan. The team commenced a schedule today at Binny Mills in Perambur, one of the most popular locations for Tamil cinema these days. The scenes being canned today involve STR, Jai and VTV Ganesh (who now seems to be a constant in all STR movies). Hansika Motwani is scheduled to join the unit on the 19th. The schedule is expected to go on till the 21st of this month and will be shot at both Binny Mills sites, Perambur and Meenambakkam. Early in the morning at 4 a.m. might not be a time when the airport is abuzz with reporters trying to get a few bytes. But, it was so on Saturday morning as the principal team of Kochadaiyaan arrived to board their flight to London. Rajinikanth was in high spirits and said a few words. He said that the team was off on a 20-25 day long schedule during which they will be shooting a couple of songs and some talkie portions. The next schedule would be in Chennai itself, he added. He expressed confidence that Kochadaiyaan would come out as a good product and said that the film should hit theatres sometime after Diwali. Finally, he said that after Kochadaiyaan’s completion, Rana would definitely take off.

Superstar saying that Rana is sure to happen after Kochadaiyaan lays to rest many rumors that Kochadaiyaaan is in fact a reworked version of the original Rana script. Also, with Rajinikanth saying that Kochadiayaan will release only after Diwali, the nearest possible date is Pongal 2013 because of the new Producer’s Council regulation which allows major releases only on 5 occasions in a calendar year.

The team that took the flight to London today consisted of Rajinikanth, Soundarya and K.S. Ravikumar. Another part of the team consisting of Sarath Kumar and a few others is set to take a flight to London on the 21st.

Sajid Khan, who has brought together three veteran actors - Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty in 'Housefull 2', says his personal favourite is Mithun-da whom he has idolised ever since he was a kid.
"Dada is my number one star since I was born. I have never ever hero-worshipped anyone more than Dada. Arguably, I am Mithun-da's biggest fan. I used to do his mimicry, I used to talk like him, I have seen every film of Dada," the 40-year-old said here in an interview.
"The only person in this entire film and in my all three films, whose first shot I took and touched his feet, that is my Dada. I love Dada so much," he added.
Asin, Zarine, Shazahn & Jacqueline sizzle in 'Housefull 2'
Meanwhile, Sajid says the public sees him as a brand. That's why after delivering a hit like 'Housefull', he feels a slight pressure of not disappointing his audience.
"There is always pressure. If you make a flop film then you are under pressure to make a hit film. If you make a hit film then you are under pressure to surpass your own standard or at least deliver another hit because the audience also has expectations."
"You know that Sajid Khan is a brand name and that you will get a family entertainer from him. I will never change that. The only pressure on me is that I should never disappoint my audience," he added.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film also features Boman Irani, Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, John Abraham, Shreyas Talpade, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez, Zarine Khan and Shazahn Padamsee. It hits theatres April 5.

The Delhi High Court Friday issued notice to the health and family welfare ministry on film director Mahesh Bhatt's plea seeking quashing of a notification prohibiting smoking scenes in movies.
Bhatt said that the government's notification of Sep 27, 2011 was 'illegal and arbitrary' and violated his fundamental rights.
A division bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Rajiv Shakdher refused to stay the notification as sought by Bhatt and asked the government to reply by July 11.
Notice to government on smoking scenes in films
Bhatt said: "I am deeply aggrieved by the 2011 amendments as they are not only violation of the freedom of speech and expression but also against the right to carry out profession, trade and business."
"Rules made in exercise of the rule-making power conferred by a particular statute have necessarily to be within the four corner of that statute. The rules cannot make provisions beyond the circumference of the act," the petition said.
Rules were null and void as they were without any jurisdiction and beyond the rule-making power of the central government, it said.
The Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Amendment Rules, 2011 had come into effect Nov 14, 2011.
"The said act and rules making power conferred thereunder have no application in the field of production and distribution of cinema and television programme which is covered and governed by the Cinematography Act and rules framed thereunder," said the petition.

How do you define a film?
Is it something captured on camera or is this something that deserves to be captured on camera?
What is 'The Godfather
40 years of 'The Godfather': Ambiguity still prevails
A film, an epic, a story, a subtle story, a life portrayed on celluloid, a story so subtle that it achieved the status of an epic, or it is just 'The Godfather'?
The film has completed 40 years but does it look like a 40 year old film?
Well, the dark photography can still confuse the audience in judging the exact date of the film.
I thought that Francis Ford Coppola could have taken a year to shoot the film but the entire shooting didn't take more than 77 days. This fact indicates how clear the storyteller in his mind was.
When Vito Corleone makes an offer we all are already prepared to accept it. The singer Johnny Fontane asks for a help and he is being given the assistance just because he is a family loyalist. Just fifteen minutes into the film and you are already confused about the traditional sense of morality and ethics.
Vito speaks with a stuffed mouth which is capable enough of stuffing silence into your mouth. Orson Welles's 'Touch of Evil' seemed nothing in front of 'The Godfather' due to a very simple reason. The terror was not in the actors' eyes or mannerism; it was in the air.
A scenario where ambiguity of character became the real strength. No clear motives, no hidden agendas, but the family has to be on the top.
Tattaglias' son Bruno gets killed and Michael emerges as the man behind the crime. Did you feel bad about the rise of a gangster?
I guess not.
You wouldn't have felt bad even if you would have been on Tattaglia's side but can you deny the fact that a murder is being 'performed'?
Film schools take 'The Godfather' as a text without realising that the film can kill the student's creativity. It's very natural though. Who wouldn't doubt his own skills of recreating a world after watching 'The Godfather'?
What does the law do?
It provides the logics and arguments to complicate an otherwise simple process of seeking justice; 'The Godfather' does exactly the same.
But he is not the 'authentic' law.
One doesn't get scared by the Corelone family but it gets complicated when the neutral spectator finds the hint of a Corleone inside him.
I doubt if there could be another 'The Godfather' even after next 4o years.

Cannes to open with Wes Anderson's 'Moonrise Kingdom'

The 2012 Cannes film festival will open with Wes Andersons 1960s drama 'Moonrise Kingdom', starring Bruce Willis and Bill Murray, organisers said on Friday. The story revolves around two young lovers who run away from their New England homes, prompting locals to send out a search party.
Cannes president Gilles Jacob said the choice of Anderson as the director of the opening movie was a way of showcasing young American cinema at the worlds biggest film festival. The winner of the coveted Palme dOr for best picture last year was veteran U.S. film maker Terrence Malick and his epic tale 'The Tree of Life'. Anderson, 42, is best known for quirky comedies like 'The Royal Tenenbaums' and 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou' as well as his animated adventure 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'.
This years festival runs from May 16-27, and the jury picking the awards will be led by Italian actor/director Nanni Moretti, himself a Golden Palm winner in 2001.

This prompted Munisha to file a police complaint against Payal who later apologised!

Im off on a twitter vacation... just for a bit... so for all bdays exams n annivs... lotsa love... and remember ur truth makes u who u r... Love n hugs guys... will miss y'all! c u soon... xoxo." With over two million followers and being a regular tweeter, it sure will be tough for PC.

If it is a film role she is vying for – it is not working. No product endorsements seem to be coming her way either. If one checks the comments on the pictures she tweets – the fans seem to want one simple thing. Sleaze. The potential directors who might be remotely impressed by the skin show is Ram Gopal Varma and the Bhatts.
Poonam Pandey’s tweets fill the feed on the microblogging site every other day. Starting from the promise to bare all if Team India won the World Cup to simply putting up her latest bikini pictures – the self proclaimed model has tried everything to grab attention.
It’s been a whole year and neither RGV nor anyone from the Bhatt camp has offered Poonam Pandey a role, not even a ‘blink-and-miss’ one. Thus it is time someone kept the clothes on and took some well-meaning acting classes and hired a better publicist.
Dear Poonam Pandey, stripping won't get you roles
So is Miss Pandey trying to encash a fame ticket that does not work in India? Apparently. India is still a country of the morally uptight (also the morally upright) – thus bikini pictures/topless pictures/bathing videos essentially cannot work for the audience that in its own way – dictates the choice of stars for the directors.
Something must be going very wrong here – for despite enough pictures posted by Poonam Pandey on Twitter for her fans – she is still methodically choosing to wear lesser and lesser clothes.
Alternately – she may declare herself – the most downloaded model on Google – aren’t we missing the obvious? The ones downloading the pictures, liking her posts on Twitter – asking her to reveal more – are there just for the ‘adult content’ and knowing the trend – they would go anywhere else to acquire the same thrills. It isn’t Poonam Pandey they want specifically – they just want someone to strip. Pretty much anyone would do.
Then again, to call ourselves morally upright and uptight is not a bad thing is it? We are just asking someone to stop unnecessary skin show for it is simply not pleasing to the eye and India is not a market it could work in. Been a year stripping hasn’t it?
India can handle a Sunny Leone – but a Sunny Leone who had to maintain a tepid image of a good Indian girl who went in to jitters when another contestant on the reality show kissed her hand. The Bhatts want that Sunny Leone. Ram Gopal Varma wants that Sunny Leone. Poonam Pandey sadly seems to have no takers. In a country that accused the channel in question of promoting porn by having Leone on the show – Poonam Pandey is in the wrong universe.
If film offers or modeling contracts are going to come then they will for things that Poonam Pandey has not tweeted about, not posted and not made a video out of. And if that is exactly what Poonam Pandey wants to deliver – then she is clearly doing it on the wrong social networking site.
Due respect to the Poonam Pandey fans – but what is on display is not guts or erotica – but something which has a dire need of refinement. So, stop cluttering the Twitter feed – and keep the clothes on. It just might work this time.

Anil Kapoor walks out of Karan Johar's next

Anil Kapoor has said no to Rensil D'Silva's second film to be produced by Karan Johar. Apparently his character was that of a cop gunning down an anti-social element. And Anil is already playing that - in Sanjay Gupta's 'Shootout At Wadala'.
This is the latest in a series of missed collaborations between Anil Kapoor and Karan Johar. Apparently the two are quite fond of each other. Several roles in the past have been offered to Anil. But nothing worked out. Rensil's film - a cop-and-outlaw thriller was almost decided.
Says a source, "Rensil had been stressing over the casting of his film for months now. With Anil stepping into the cop's role and Emraan Hashmi in the outlaw's role, things had finally fallen into place." But now with Anil opting out, Rensil is back looking for a leading man.
Pics: Inside Anil Kapoor's birthday party!

Says a director close to Anil, "Anil never repeats roles. And the character in Rensil's film appeared to be similar to the one he is playing in Sanjay Gupta's film. So he has said no." Both Anil and Rensil remained unavailable for comment.

Everyone's waiting for Chitrangada Singh's first ever item number in Shirish Kunder's 'Joker', but the actress herself is looking forward to her next film 'Inkaar' on sexual harassment.
The 35-year-old is re-teaming with ace director Sudhir Mishra in the film where Arjun Rampal plays the male lead. Chitrangada stars as a corporate woman who suffers sexual exploitation at the workplace.
"I am really looking forward to 'Inkaar', the film is releasing in May. It is a superb script just like Sudhir's other films. It's about a love story stuck in a sexual harassment case. I am very excited about it," Chitrangada told
PTI.
Chitrangada to do a film on sexual harassment
At the same time she is also slightly anxious about her item number 'Kaafirana' as it has already generated quite a buzz.
"It is great to have the excitement build around it. While shooting we saw the song come about nicely and I am very confident with Farah Khan's choreography because of what she has done in the past. Maybe I am a little anxious about the
item number but I'm looking forward to it," said Chitrangada, who was in the Capital to launch Gillette's No Shave No Lipstick campaign.
Famous for intense roles in serious films like 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi', Chitrangada made her first commercial film 'Desi Boyz' recently. The actress said that the film gave her the confidence to continue trying various genres.
"I am dabbling with all kinds of things. I haven't done much of commercial stuff, so I'm giving it a shot to see how it goes. It's exciting because I am doing something different.

Actress Freida Pinto says she had a terrifying brush with a suicide bomber while filming a TV show in Afghanistan.
Before finding fame with her role in multi-Oscar winning 2008 movie 'Slumdog Millionaire', the Indian beauty was a presenter on Zee TV's travel show 'Full Circle'.
She headed to Afghanistan in 2006 for a report on the region's tourism hotspots - but was left shaken when she had to flee a street after a suicide bomber was spotted in a nearby car, reported Esquire magazine.
'Slumdog Millionaire' star Freida Pinto turns 27

"We were on our way to one of the temples in Kabul, and we saw these people standing around, staring at this car, their arms folded. They calmly asked us to go the other way...The guy said, 'You see that little red car? There's a suicide bomber in that car, and it's going to go off anytime.'
"He was so matter-of-fact... It was so sad. No one even knew who (the bomber) was. I don't know if there was an explosion. We left the scene," said Pinto.

Remember Sneha Ullal, the actress with an uncanny resemblance to Aishwarya Rai? After a largely unsuccessful stint in Bollywood, she has now surfaced in a racy fashion video shoot in sheer white negligee.
Photographer Sarath Shetty clicked Ullal in erotic poses in a video he posted on Vimeo, a video sharing website. Ullal started her Bollywood career with Salman Khan's Lucky: No Time For Love after her resemblance to Rai caught the attention of filmmakers.
She has also starred in Telugu films apart from Sohail Khan's Aryan, which did not do well at the box office.

John Abraham says he has worked hard to get into the character of Manya Surve, the gangster who was shot dead by Mumbai police in 1982, for the movie 'Shootout At Wadala', inspired by the real life incident.
"I can honestly say that I have put in every kind of effort to study this character, to work on the way he supposedly behaved. In fact, me and Sanjay (Gupta) went and met the people who knew him to find out how Manya Surve behaved and the way he spoke," the 39-year-old said here at an event.
"There was talk of me learning Marathi for this, but the idea was to understand the colloquial nature of the language... so that you understand how Manya Surve was in everyday life. So, as an actor I have really given all my effort and worked really hard to do maximum research towards this film," he added.
I researched a lot about Manya Surve: John Abraham
Though John plays the central character in the film, he does not feel burdened with the extra responsibility to promote it.
"I am relieved. Every film requires promotion and what I feel is what Ekta (Kapoor) and Sanjay (Gupta) have done here, is actually a boon for all of us. So I have been given an opportunity to have a platform to show what each one of us can do out here.
"I don't feel it's a crunch, I think it's a great opportunity and I am going to grasp it with both my hands. So, I am very excited," said John who was last seen in 'Desi Boyz.
Directed by Sanjay Gupta, 'Shootout at Wadala' also features Anil Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt, Tusshar Kapoor, Sonu Sood, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ronit Roy and Manoj Bajpai.

Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar, who would be seen next as a police inspector in gangster movie 'Shootout at Wadala', says he is an actor by default.
"I did this film because of Sanjay Gupta. It was Gupta who introduced me to Hindi film industry as an actor. And I am not a passionate actor, I am an actor by default, I am a lazy actor," Mahesh told reporters here.
Mahesh started his acting career with Gupta's 'Kaante' (2003) and thereafter did over 20 films including 'Plan', 'Musafir', 'Zinda', 'Dus Kahaniyaan' among others. As a director, he is credited for films like 'Vaastav' (1999), 'Astitva' (2000) and 'Viruddh' (2005).
Mahesh Manjrekar: An actor by default
Now in 'Shootout at Wadala' he shares screen space with actors John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Tusshar Kapoor and Ronit Roy.
The film will dramatise the first registered encounter by Mumbai police, where gangster Manya Surve was shot dead in 1982 in Wadala. John plays the role of Surve, while Anil Kapoor plays ACP Isaque Bagwan, Mahesh plays the role of
Inspector Bhide.
Ask him when he intends to return to directing a Hindi film, he, says, "Marathi films, theatre, award functions... all these things keep me busy. So the day I don't have to remake a South film, I will do a Hindi film."
